I had a broken leg fixed by the British NHS, my father had a bypass and a kidney operation, my brother in law had 2 bypasses, my mother had a gallbladder operation and 6 weeks to counter post-partum depression (all over the last 50 years) and not one of us had to wait for more than 2 weeks. I agree that the NHS could do to be less bureaucratic, but have you ever had to deal with the blizzard of paper that comes out of an American hospital for relatively minor treatment? Or witnesses (as I did in Jacksonville) a colleague collapsing unconscious with malaria over the hospital reception desk grimly clutching her credit card? The fact of the matter is that the public systems of Europe all (except Bulgaria and Albania) deliver significantly better average health and life-expectancy outcomes for the average citizen than the richest country on the planet. That's a fact and to make things better something has to change. Most of the Republican arguments appear to be based on distortions of fact or plain lies and appear to defend only the status quo. The really shocking thing about this debate is its descent into ideological posturing and its abandonment of a search for solutions driven by goodwill and mutual respect.
Mark,
Please pass out the barf bags to us Libs. What a bunch of crap you're spinning with Palin's "qualifications". Do any of you Dittoheads ever think for yourself?
